PSALM 46 MEDITATION

Psalm 46 (NIV)

God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear,
though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into
the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.

There is a river whose streams make glad
the city of God, the holy place
where the Most High dwells.
God is within her, she will not fall:
God will help her at break of day.
Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
He lifts his voice, the earth melts.

The Lord Almighty is with us;
The God of Jacob is our fortress.

Come and see the works of the Lord,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth;
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear,
He burns the shields with fire.
“Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”

The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Susie's devotional thoughts from 2001:

            The bottom line is God is in control.  A group of men used commercial airliners as weapons of mass destruction, giant suicide bombs, and destroyed thousands of lives.  God is in control.  Our nation’s leaders are preparing for war, a war that could increase terrorism in our homeland.  God is in control.  My son is in Army ROTC and plans a full time military career in just two years.  God is in control.  If I trust in my emotions, I’ll feel that all is lost and no answer is in sight.  Praise God!  My emotions are not what controls the world.  God is in control.  If we take all our concerns to God, he promises that “the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7)
            Go ahead.  Pour out your heart to God.  Give him all your fears and concerns and thank him in advance for being in control.  Be still and allow his peace to wash over you in the midst of your storm.  Each time your mind becomes troubled, say it aloud, “God is in control!”
